My idea of a relationship with God was much like most of ours- a silent conversation with ‘God’ at the beginning of the day or before sleeping at night- much like talking into thin air or talking to yourself, all the while telling yourself that there actually is someone out there listening to you and that it’s not weird at all. When I first met Shrinka Aunty, my mother had been going to her for about a month. Being an ardent (and silent) believer myself, I never really objected to the idea of going to this enigmatic lady who taught ‘the art of praying’. She seemed absolutely normal, another regular mortal, but she talked of energies and God and the universe in a way that wasn’t just completely outlandish but also very palatable- first time someone was talking to me about God in a language I actually understood. And not just praying, sitting with her in her energy infused room (it’s not a joke, there actually is a palpable spirit of positivity in there), she talked about life, self conduct and, most importantly, having a sense of humor. We all keep wondering if we’re on the right path, where are we heading, what is happening. Aunty has given me this invaluable knowledge where I- my physical body- is evidence to what is going wrong and how to correct it. That being said, on a very personal level, she has taught me in her own obscure way (actually, mostly by observing her go about her daily life) how to be emotionally centered, calm and secure- and that coming from a 20 year old boy, at the brink of his career, is no easy feat.

In just two years of chanting with Shrinka, I have found not just my family members settling down in life, but also the joy of seeing us all chant. My sister, mother, two young children and husband are all enjoying Sanskrit chants. My little ones and me remember many chants by heart and now they even correct me when pronunciation goes wrong ! It is wonderful to see three generations working on their spiritual quest, thanks to Shrinka.
We also have the divine blessings of regular Havans at home and special pilgrimages with Shrinka.
I have been with her to Hampi which felt like a hanumanji planet and also to tirupati and kalahasti. At the latter, our darshan was like entering into a shiva-Parvati world for hours. Such special spiritual landscapes can only be discovered with a very evolved and special soul. Shrinka is that person as well as a spiritual soulmate for me.
Personally and spiritually, Shrinka is member of our family now, taking us all on a beautiful, spiritual journey in this lifetime. Thank you Shrinka for all this and much more that cannot be put in words.
